Checklist what to Pack in Your Hospital Bag
If you're anywhere near your due date and still have an empty bag sitting in the corner of the nursery giving you side eye, take a breath. You've got this, and we're going to walk you through exactly what to throw in there so you're not scrambling at 2am wondering if your water just broke.
For You: The Comfort Stuff
You're going to be in a hospital gown for a bit, but the second they let you change into your own clothes, you'll want something that doesn't feel like a costume.
Nursing-friendly pajamas and robe. Get something soft, and easy to nurse in.
Kindred Bravely's nursing gowns and robes are designed so you can breastfeed or pump without fully undressing every time.
A comfy going-home outfit. You will not fit into your pre-pregnancy jeans. Pack something stretchy and forgiving, think leggings and an oversized top.
Nursing bras. Nursing and sleep bras have that soft, no-underwire feel that your body will actually thank you for in those first tender days.
A hands-free pumping bra, if you know you'll be pumping early on. Momcozy makes some of the most popular ones, and having your hands free to scroll your phone or hold your baby while pumping is a small luxury that feels huge.
Nipple cream. Trust me on this one.
A portable, wearable pump. Speaking of Momcozy, their wearable pumps have become a go-to for a lot of moms because they're quiet and let you move around instead of being tethered to a machine.
High-waisted, underwear, the kind you don't mind never seeing again. The hospital will send you home with mesh ones and pads, but having a few of your own for comfort is nice too.
For Baby
A going-home outfit in a couple of sizes, since you don't know how big your little one will be. Newborn and 0 to 3 months both, just in case.

Car seat, already installed and inspected before you go into labor if possible. The hospital typically won't let you leave without one.
For Your Partner or Support Person
They need snacks, a phone charger, a change of clothes, and something to do during the slow parts of labor. Don't forget them, they're going to be running on adrenaline and vending machine coffee just like you.
The Practical Stuff You'll Forget
- Insurance card and ID
- Birth plan copies, if you have one
- Snacks for you, hospital food schedules are not always convenient
- A going-home bag that's separate from your labor bag, so you're not digging through everything when you're ready to leave
Pack this bag around 36 weeks. Keep it by the door or in your car. And don't stress about having everything perfect. The hospital has basics if you forget something. The goal is just to feel a little more prepared and a little less panicked when the moment comes. You're going to do great ❤️
